The original Battlestar Galactica series aired in 1978 starring Richard Hatch as Captain Apollo and Dirk Benedict as Lieutenant Starbuck. The show was short lived but lasted long enough to create a large following that held strong once the series was put into syndication. In 2003, NBC resurrected the series. This time starring William James Olmos as Captain William Adama and Mary McDonnell as President Laura Roslin. The newly revamped Battlestar Galactica fleet picked up where the original series left off with the humans in a never-ending battle with renegade Cylons. Now you can take your love for Battlestar Galactica one step further and partake in the Battlestar Galactica online game.
The technology of the ships in the new series was much improved over the original Viper and Renegade fighters. The amount of memorabilia associated with both series’ is staggering. Much of what was accumulated from the last series that ended in 2009 was removed by NBC/Propworx and stored in a warehouse. This vast collection has slowly started to be auctioned off over the past few years. Several items and collections are being sold in lots on eBay and on the Propworx website.
The following items are ones that can be used as showcase pieces for display in a home or office setting. Many have been sold on through the auction sites, while others are remaining to be put on the sale block.
1. Storyboards. There are several sets of storyboards available. A few of the sets can be found on eBay, while others are located on the Propworx website. Prices for the sets depend on how many pages are in each one and the medium with which they were produced. Most are the original sketches that were laid out in the planning of the scenes for both the original series and the 2003 version. Story boards can be framed and displayed in sequence or separately as individual pieces of artwork.
2. Rank Pins. Propworx Battlestar Galactica Auction will be selling several sets of Battlestar Galactica Rank Pins. The set of pins includes the chest pins worn on the uniforms plus a set of Jr. Lieutenant collar pins. These are from the 2003 series and will be auctioned off in August of 2011 through the Propworx Battlestar Galactica site. There is no mention of a limit for an opening bid.
3. Paper Cubits. Propworx Battlestar Galactica is also auctioning sets of the Paper Cubits used as currency on the Battlestar Galactica series. Cubits were used in both the original and second generation Battlestar Galactica series. Each set of money contains paper cubit notes that are emblazoned with the colonial symbol and the money’s denomination. Also included are the metal coins with symbols of both Caprica and Scorpia. These are being auctioned off beginning in August of 2011 with no minimum bid being set.
4. Colonial Flags. Flags from each of the colonies are available through the Propworx website. In the past some of the flags have sold for as much as $1680 with the estimated bids starting at $400. Flags from Gemenon, Caprica, Tauron and Canceron are a few of those listed on the Propworx Battlestar Galactica site.
5. Patch Collections. Patch collections can be found on both eBay and Propworx Battlestar Galactica Auction website. The Squadron Patch Collection contains patches from the Vipers, Vigilantes, Raptors and Battleaxe Squadrons. This collection has sold in the past for up to $1200.
The Battle Group Patch collection is also available on both eBay and Propworx. Pegasus, Valkyrie and Triton battle groups are represented with the set selling for as much as $960.
The Definitive Patch collection contains several patches from areas other areas of the Battlestar Galactica locales. Eversun Luxury Liners and the Caprica City Police Department are just two of the patches included in this set. The Definitive Patch collection has sold for as much as $720.
6. Ellen Tigh’s Bracelet. The gold bracelet with the star design on the outside edges is available through auction on eBay. The letters ET are inscribed on the inside of the bracelet. The bracelet was known for being in the possession of Jack Fisk during the investigation of the Black Market in the 2003 Battlestar Galactica series. In the past, the bracelet has sold for over $230.
7. Maps. One of the most popular maps of the Battlestar Galactica series is the New Caprica map that lays out the evacuation routes used in “Exodus”. “Exodus” was a two part episode that aired in Season 3. The map has previously been sold for $555.
Whether a fan of the original or the second generation Battlestar Galactica series or just someone who loves playing the online BSG game, it is easy to see there is a wide variety of mementos to make any collector of BSG material happy. Much of it is reasonably priced and can be obtained directly from Propworx. Other pieces can be found on eBay and through private collectors.
