If you ask people if ‘bigger is better’, only the dirty minded ones will immediately say yes. The others will probably ask to be more specific. If we asked the question about something kind of personal, say your mouse pad, your answers will be more varied. It is clear however, that XtracPads believe bigger is better, really big. Today we will be looking at the biggest mouse pad that we’ve ever come across – the Ripper XXL.
“Started in March of 2002 by a group of hard-core PC gamers, our mousing surfaces and accessories have won countless awards.
We offer an expanding variety of surfaces and optical mouse pad sizes. Not only are our products used in computer gaming, they are equally efficient for many other applications such as digital animation, desktop publishing and more.
The medical, military, gaming, art, scientific and aerospace industries all benefit from the high quality, speed and accuracy found in all XTracPads optical mouse pads. XTracPads is headquartered in Salt Lake City, Utah.”

See? We told you it was big. The specifications contain no mistakes. This pad, or desk island as we first described it, is nearly three foot wide and one and a half in length. The Ripper XXL is a cloth mouse mat which will do more than provide a surface for your mouse. You’ll probably find it goes right under your keyboard with room to spare. This in effect allows the whole top of your computer desk to become a mousing surface.
The Ripper XXL’s backing is fully rubberized so it prevents the pad from slipping about on your desk. The Ripper XXL is also nice and soft whilst being comfortable. The Ripper XXL is also durable too and the edges are fray resistant.
XtracPads have also kindly added in two free strips of their Mad Tape. Mad Tape is a special tape you apply on the bottom of your mouse feet to reduce friction. The tape is made with a mesh backing for durability, and then coated it with Polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) also known as Teflon.
Testing & Performance
We played Unreal Tournament 2004 Instagib, Half Life 2, FEAR Combat, Battlefield, Counter Strike: Source and we felt that this mat was excellent. It was pretty accurate and the glide over the pad was almost perfect. What was best though was that we didn’t have to worry about the mouse leaving the pad in any direction. The Ripper XXL is definitely very comfortable to use. Mice also run over the pad nicely although we’ve used pads with a smoother ‘glide’.
We’ll say it again, this pad is huge. Possibly too big for those with pull out drawer desks. You could fold the mat over for it to fit but it probably won’t look right. There isn’t much else to say apart from performance wise which the pad does very well for a cloth pad. So, that’s about it, we’ve probably covered it all (excuse the pun). Looking for a big pad? This is prooably the biggest you’ll find.
